Hernández-Campbell inaugura la primera muestra dedicada a un artista local. La exhibición reúne obra previa junto con piezas realizadas especialmente para este espacio, marcando un cruce entre trayectorias: la del artista y la de la galería en su nuevo territorio. Nacido en Guadalajara en 2001 y formado entre México, Estados Unidos, Francia y China, Morris despliega en su obra ficciones abiertas donde personajes, bestias, presencias ambiguas o momentos ominosos interrumpen la escena y sugieren transiciones, delirios o desenlaces posibles, donde habitando paisajes evocan la tradición figurativa occidental al tiempo que la fracturan. Nació y creció en una región apalache pobre y explotada del oeste de Carolina del Norte, donde la herencia rara vez se transmitía en dinero y era más común en forma de baladas, folclore, objetos hechos a mano como colchas, orgullo y amor por la naturaleza. Si bien la globalización le quitó trabajo a muchos en su hogar, ya que las fábricas textiles se mudaron a lugares de Asia o Latinoamérica, también trajo inmigrantes mexicanos, cuya propia cultura de narración y artes textiles resonó con él. Después de estudiar literatura, folclore y tejido en Kentucky, Jesse obtuvo una beca de enriquecimiento artístico que le permitió viajar a Chile y Bolivia para aprender más técnicas en artes textiles. Aunque profundamente arraigado en la cultura apalache, pero no del todo cómodo allí, finalmente se sintió como en casa en la Ciudad de México, donde continúa explorando la identidad en el contexto del capitalismo tardío. Jesse se inspira en su amor infantil por los héroes de cómics que, en realidad, funcionan como herramientas del colonialismo y propaganda del bien y el mal según lo determinado por el imperio estadounidense, sus héroes son ahora aquellos que viven al margen o en contra de esta sociedad, creando sus propias reglas (o la falta de ellas) sobre la marcha. "Varios Santos" es un proyecto en curso de máscaras, fotografía, cómics y performance que imagina a estos héroes como santos de la travesura, la desvergüenza, el ecoterrorismo, la carretera, la tristeza, etc., creados en Todos Santos y sus alrededores o inspirados por ellos, en colaboración con Otra Cosa Sin Nombre. Jesse is an illustrator and story teller through words, image, and textiles. Born and raised in a poor and exploited appalachian region of western north carolina where inheritance was rarely through money and more commonly passed down in the form of ballads, folklore, handmade objects like quilts, pride, and a love of the natural world. While globalization took work from many in his home as textile mills moved to places in Asia or latinamerica, it also brought mexican immigrants, whose own culture of storytelling and fiber arts resonated with him. After studying literature, folklore, and weaving in Kentucky, Jesse earned an artist enrichment grant that allowed him to travel in Chile and Bolivia to learn further techniques in textile arts. Su práctica se ha construido a partir del oficio, el desplazamiento y una relación directa con los territorios que ha habitado. Formado en la Ciudad de México, realizó la Licenciatura en Artes Visuales en la ENAP–UNAM entre 1987 y 1991, donde estudió con artistas y teóricos fundamentales como Guillermo Zapfe, Luis Nishizawa, Jesús Mayagoitia, Francisco Castro Leñero y Gerardo López Padilla, además de cursar teoría del arte con Juan Acha. En este periodo, Flores se vincula de manera profunda con el paisaje, la luz y los ritmos del desierto, al tiempo que se desempeña como gerente de galería, guía de turistas, rotulista, pintor de casas y gestor de espacios culturales y de hospitalidad. Las piezas resultantes son testimonio de un proceso sostenido en el tiempo, donde el oficio, el lugar y la experiencia se entrelazan para producir lo que al mismo tiempo es ejercicio técnico, archivo sensible y forma de permanencia. Ángel Baltazar Flores Lagunes is a visual artist and printmaker. His practice has been shaped through craft, displacement, and a direct relationship with the territories he has inhabited. Trained in Mexico City, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts at ENAP–UNAM between 1987 and 1991, where he studied with key artists and theorists such as Guillermo Zapfe, Luis Nishizawa, Jesús Mayagoitia, Francisco Castro Leñero, and Gerardo López Padilla, and took courses in art theory with Juan Acha. His education expanded into the intersection of image and sound through the study of musical composition via drawing using the UPIC system developed by Iannis Xenakis, as well as through material processes such as handmade paper and screen printing. Although his career began in an urban context shaped by photography, print shops, theater, and stage production, one of the defining moments of his development took place in the early 2000s during his stay in Baja California Sur, particularly in Todos Santos. During this period, Flores developed a deep connection with the landscape, light, and rhythms of the desert, while working as a gallery manager, tour guide, sign painter, house painter, and facilitator of cultural and hospitality spaces. These experiences helped consolidate an ethic of manual labor and an expanded understanding of art as a situated, everyday practice. The artistic residency he is currently undertaking at the new location of Otra cosa sin nombre in Todos Santos reactivates this earlier bond from a mature and reflective perspective. Rather than a return, this period functions as a re-reading: the artist revisits printmaking as a space where accumulated experiences, technical knowledge, and material memory converge. Here, graphic work emerges as record, trace, and system of thought, bringing together discipline, improvisation, and close observation of the surrounding environment. The work developed during the residency thus belongs to a practice that does not seek to separate life from art, but to allow them to coexist. The resulting pieces testify to a process sustained over time, in which craft, place, and experience intertwine to produce a graphic practice that is simultaneously a technical exercise, a sensitive archive, and a form of permanence.
